Luis Palma gets Celtic support as super fan reacts to Honduras apology with airport shirt stunt

Luis Palma's apology for Honduras crashing out of the CONCACAF Nations League has fallen on deaf ears for one internet personality.

The Celtic star saw a 2-0 lead from the first leg wiped out as their clash ended in disaster against Mexico. Palma's men lost a 110th minute goal from Edson Alvarez take their knockout tie in to penalties, which the Mexicans won 4-2 on Wednesday at the quarter-final stage. The tricky winger, who has become an emerging Parkhead favourite under Brendan Rodgers since making a summer move from Greek side Aris, took to social media to issue an apology to fans after the defeat at the Aztec stadium. Celtic punters were also put on notice when the 23-year-old was said to be in 'discomfort' with an injury last week, but the Honduran played an uninterrupted game.

And Japanese-American philanthropist Shin Fujiyama, who co-founded Students Helping Honduras which helps to tackle poverty in the country, took to his own social media following to share a message of support for Palma. The 39-year-old reckons the Hoops star has nothing to apologise for as he zipped off his jacket to display a Celtic jersey with Palma's name and number on it while standing in an airport.

He said: "I'm already leaving Mexico and I saw on social media that Palma is apologising. You don't have to apologise for anything Luis, you gave it one hundred per cent with your teammates. And look, here I have your shirt on (shows Celtic top). Obviously our support for you is unconditional so let's go against Costa Rica. Let's go. Thank you for everything you have done."

The clip was picked up by multiple outlets in Honduras with Palma's men set to take on Costa Rica in a play-off to reach the CONCACAF in March next year. The Parkhead winger will have plenty more important games for Rodgers' men before then, including against Motherwell on Saturday when the Scottish Premiership returns from the international break.
