Jalen Milroe announces decision to stay with Alabama for next season as the QB opts out of 2024 NFL

Publish date: 2024-05-11

Jalen Milroe and the Alabama Crimson Tide are currently preparing to take on the No. 1-ranked Michigan Wolverines in the college football playoffs. Ahead of the crucial game, the 21-year-old quarterback announced that he would be returning to college or playing one more season instead of declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The talented signal-caller recently made an appearance on The Next Round Live show and discussed his future as a football player. As everyone expected, Milore announced that he would be returning to Alabama next season.

I'm coming back for my senior year.
Milroe revealed in the show

Milroe enrolled as a freshman in Alabama in January 2021 and will graduate on Sunday with a business administration degree. He spent his last three seasons dressing up for Nick Saban’s team and managed to win the starting quarterback job in the 2023 college football season. His father, Quentin Milroe, talked to ESPN about his son’s decision to return to football.

We're so excited and proud of him for staying focused. He set goals for himself, and I'm amazed at how he has managed it all.
Quentin Milroe told ESPN

After winning the starting QB job in 2023, Milroe had a great season and finished in sixth place in the Heisman Trophy voting. He faced some adversity back earlier in the season when he was benched in week 3. However, he managed to return to the lineup and lead his team to an impressive streak of 11 victories.

In that period, Milroe accumulated 28 touchdowns while turning over the ball just five times. Even Nick Saban acknowledged that his team wouldn’t have made the playoffs without Milroe’s impressive transformation.

Currently, Milroe doesn’t have a great draft stock, so his decision to return was expected by many. If he had a great 2024 campaign, he could become a top prospect in the 2025 draft.

The 21-year-old quarterback, Jalen Milroe, managed to turn around his campaign in a remarkable way. However, he was not named one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy. However, Milroe is focused on a bigger goal.

I'd rather win a national championship, that means more to me.
Milroe said on the Next Round show

Milroe claimed that he is currently only focused on taking down the No. 1-ranked Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl. He is looking to lead the Alabama Crimson Tide to their second national championship title in the last five years.
